Make Your Diet Work
This is a diet plan with a difference. It is written by Dr. Michael A. Smith, MD who tells us that he is a U.S trained doctor with seven years experience studying weight
gain...how you gain it, why you gain it, and the effects of gaining it. And that he is one of only a handful of professionally trained doctors
with a special interest in weight gain issues. I haven't checked this out but I think it is probably true since his diet is not a money spinning
fad

The MYDW (Make Your Diet Work) method deals with weight loss but is more concerned with preventing weight re-gain. This is great. I know that
I can lose weight on practically any diet that reduces calorie intake in some way, but I can't keep it off. How about you? MYDW explains why this
is inevitable- so we don't need to feel guilty any more- and sets out to combat it. "The best weight loss program is the one that works best for
you. But realize this...unless your dieting plan protects against weight regain, it can not be considered for the best weight loss program." he
says.
In fact Dr. Mike says there are three ways to lose weight all of which involve reducing calories. Picking a diet plan is no longer
seen as important as once it was. The book asks you which type of weight loss diet you want to be on. These are:
- Low Fat,
- Low Carbs and
- Low Calorie
It is your choice which of these you decide to use. He does have a great section on how to recognise a fad diet though, so he isn't
saying any old diet plan will do. Here is his summary on how to recognise a fad :
The Six Red Flags of Fad Diets
-
Consumer Testimonials…Before & After Photos. (Testimonials are fine…when real!)
-
Rapid Weight-loss Claims. (These are true claims…it’s just not healthy)
-
No Diet or Exercise Required (Lies, lies, lies)
-
Long-term/Permanent Weight-loss Claims. (Usually exaggerated results)
-
Clinically Proven/Doctor Approved Claims. (But is the doctor a weight specialist, are they paid?)
-
Natural/Safe Weight-loss Claims. (Usually, the "natural" products are NOT tested)
And here are the questions he suggests you ask before choosing any weight loss diet plan:
Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Diet
-
Does the program provide counseling to help you change your eating activity, and personal habits?
-
The weight loss program you choose should identify negative weight gaining behaviors eating habits and lifestyle factors, such as lack of
physical activity that have contributed to weight gain.
-
Is the staff made up of a variety of qualified counselors and health professionals such as nutritionist, registered dietitians, doctors,
nurses, psychologists, and exercise physiologists?
- You need to be evaluated by a physician if you have any health problems, are currently taking any medicine, or plan on taking any
medicine, or plan to lose more than 15 to 20 pounds.
-
If your weight control plan uses a very low-calorie diet (a special liquid formula that replaces all food for 1 to 4 months), an exam and
follow up visits by a doctor are also needed.
-
Does the program have on and off-line 24 hour support?
- The program should provide long-term strategies to deal with weight problems you may have in the future. These strategies might include
things like setting up a support system and establishing a physical activity routine.
Make Your Diet Work Plan
The Make Your Diet Work plan is in fact just what it says it is. It shows you how to make the weight loss diet
you are on work. There are specific directions on this which include cycling your weight loss week by week. So for
example one week you aim to lose 2 lbs and another week say 3 or 4 lbs. He shows you how much to eat in order to achieve this on a low fat, low
carb or low calorie plan. Another tactic is to incorporate thermogenic foods, which are described, in your menu. These provoke a state
of burning energy instead of storing it about your body. There are several other tactics but I had better not give them all away here!
The main book is divided into 3 sections which include:
-
How To Lose Weight
-
How To Maintain Weight Loss and
-
A "Weight Loss Mentor".
There is lot in MYDW that is valuable, I am very impressed with it. The tactics described are all scientifically valid - after
all he is a weight loss specialist. You can buy his program and download it immediately by clicking here: Make Your Diet Work . It
only costs around $17.80
